Summary

The Northern Rockies Servicing Human Resources Office (NRSHRO) in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, is accepting applications through USAJOBS to recruit and fill one permanent, full-time position of Technical Writer-Editor, GS-1083-11, for the Yellowstone Center for Resources (YCR), Yellowstone National Park.

Responsibilities

  • Works for the Yellowstone Center for Resources (YCR) under the guidance and direct supervision of the Deputy Chief of YCR to oversee the Science Communications Program.
  • Writes and edits materials (i.e., published reports, Yellowstone Science content) and edits compliance and natural/cultural resource documents, and other annual reports produced in the YCR, using style guidance documents developed by the YCR Science Communication Program.
  • Collaborates on and oversees website content on the Yellowstone and Yellowstone Science subject site web pages, and ensures web content complies with the accessibility requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
  • Acquires final approval (via the YCR Chief) of layout and design of printed and web content including Yellowstone Science, annual resource reports, web content, and social media posts from the YCR Division, including overseeing preparation and transfer of final files to approved printers and coordinating the distribution of products via email and mail services.
  • Coordinates with the Strategic Communication Division, the Resource Education and Youth Programs Division, partners and other programs on external and internal communications about science and research in the park. Manages other resource-related science communication projects and products.
  • Organizes the biennial scientific conference on the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem in collaboration with partners and an interjurisdictional conference planning committee. Serves as the liaison for planning other science-based workshops and conferences, such as the biennial Yellowstone Volcano Observatory, science panels, and advisory workshops as requested by YCR programs.
  • Supervises 1-2 staff and contracted technical editors, volunteers, and interns, including overseeing their work and developing performance plans, tracking the program’s budget, and submitting annual funding proposals.
  • Will work a full-time work schedule, 40 hours per week.

Area Information: Park headquarters is located in Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park. Elevation at Mammoth is 6,200 feet. Temperatures vary from an average of 70-75 degrees Fahrenheit in summer to sub-zero at times in winter. A school is available, with kindergarten through 12th grade, in Gardiner, Montana, five miles north of headquarters. Free bus transportation is provided for school children between Mammoth and Gardiner. Many community facilities such as stores, a drugstore, day care, motels, and restaurants are available in Gardiner. A medical clinic is available in Mammoth.
