Position DescriptionThe Seattle Department of Transportation’s (SDOT) Office of Equity and Economic Inclusion (OEEI) is seeking a graduate student to support the City’s Race and Social Justice Initiative (RSJI) responsibilities, specifically focusing on the Women and Minority Business Enterprises (WMBE) program and assist with special projects for OEEI. This is an opportunity to learn about municipal government, transportation, social equity programs, contracting, and program performance management.

The student in this position will impact equity initiatives for SDOT and should be eager to contribute to the advancement of City of Seattle’s equity, inclusion and RSJI policies. The Office of Equity and Economic Inclusion leads SDOT’s strategic vision and leadership in the planning, promotion and advancement of the City’s equity and diversity initiative.

Job ResponsibilitiesWork on special projects for Women and Minority Business Enterprises program and the Race and Social Justice Initiative.

  • Develop equity tools and resources
  • Perform data research and analysis
  • Research WMBE and RSJI best practices
  • Attend WMBE stakeholder events and meetings
  • Attend other meetings as necessary  (staff and contract meetings)

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:

Education:
Must be enrolled in an accredited educational program. Graduate interns must maintain a satisfactory GPA of 3.0 or higher for the duration of the internship.

Preferred areas of  studying:  Public Administration; Business Administration; Communication Studies; Mass Communication; Social Work; Public Affairs; Community Development; Urban Planning; Art/Graphic Design; Publishing

Experience:

Required Qualifications

  • Desire to learn and expand knowledge of equity policy and processes
  • Strong research skills
  • Experience analyzing statistical data
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Wor and Access databases
  • Accurate data entry skills

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and/or experience with equity, RSJI and/or WMBE programs
  • Experience developing goals, objectives, and performance measures
  • Experience developing communication materials to include brochures, communication collateral and graphic design elements
  • Experience developing chart graphs and/or training material

Additional InformationStart/End Dates:  Late September 2019 and ends March 2020

Schedule:
Intern will work 20 hours/weeks while school is in session.  40 hours/week during school breaks.  Work hours can be scheduled between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm.

SalaryGraduates will be paid $20.30/hour.
