Full-Time/Permanent
This position implementation of Wildlife Program goals objectives and assignments within District 7. Inventories and monitors diverse wildlife populations, measuring population changes within a district. Supervises a fulltime assistant and other temporary staff in the work unit. Develops recommendations for wildlife management and recreation opportunities within a district. Implements wildlife management conservation and recreation activities within a district. Communicates with the public and other agencies on diverse wildlife issues within an assigned area.
Duties:
Develops or co-develops wildlife surveys for assigned district, conducts surveys, analyzes results, assesses health of wildlife, and write reports on surveys. Analyzes fish and wildlife populations and develops harvest recommendations to conserve species and promote recreation opportunity
Tasks include: Aerial Deer Surveys
Administrative duties includes hunting recommendations, public interaction, bureaucracy, district team, recommends regulation, provides customer service, and other duties as assigned.
Tasks include: Questions from the public
Work on habitat enhancement/restoration projects land acquisition and restoration projects, assess habitat. Includes grant writing and contract management. Evaluates habitat and assess population responses to habitat changes
Tasks include: Technical advice for restoration projects
Lead program point of contact for coordination, communication, and implementation of Game and Diversity Divisions priorities. Provides input into influence program priorities within the District.
Tasks include: Public Presentations
Supervise and directs activists for professional staff including hiring, evaluating, rewarding, correction, and mentoring.

Working Conditions:
Work Setting, including hazards:
- Available for non-scheduled work week and travel.
- Willingness and ability to work long irregular hours.
- Willingness to perform aerial and/or marine surveys.
- Ability to work in inclement weather over difficult terrain, including slippery rocks, steep banks, and sticky mud.
- Ability to walk, bend, stoop, while at times carrying up to 40 pounds.

- Ability to use critical thinking in collecting, recording, compiling, and summarizing data.

A Bachelor’s degree in fisheries, wildlife management, natural resource science, or environmental science
AND
Five years of professional experience in fish, wildlife, or habitat management or research, wildlife management or wildlife research, or habitat management or habitat research. Twelve semesters or eighteen-quarter hours of specific course work is required for certain positions.
Note: A Master’s degree in the applicable science will substitute for one year of the required experience.
Note: A Ph.D. in the applicable science will substitute for two years of the required experience.
OR
Four years as a Fish & Wildlife Biologist 3.
Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment:
The employee in this position may use firearms in the performance of their job duties. The use of firearms is beneficial to the agency and not frequent and routine. Beneficial means that use of a firearm contributes to or further the Department’s mission and advances program priorities. The employee must pass background checks and training to receive authorization to use a firearm (Policy 7011).

This position is in the bargaining unit represented by the Washington Association of Fish & Wildlife Professionals and is subject to the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the State of Washington, Department of Fish & Wildlife, and the Washington Association of Fish & Wildlife Professionals.
