Responsibilities

  • Performs hydrologic technician work in support of hydrologists, civil engineers, and other professionals engaged in scientific studies of surface water, meteorology, sediment and debris production, and water quality for water resource and land management planning and design. Applies skills in mathematics, and the study of hydrology analysis and consideration of techniques and procedures, to perform the following duties:
  • Installs and maintains the district hydrologic instrumentation; repairs, calibrates, and services gages and recorders; performs all maintenance necessary to insure optimal operation of all equipment.
  • Assists with planning necessary for modification of existing data collection stations or installation of new stations to augment or improve existing instrumentation. Makes sketches of locations, dimensions, layouts, and modifications; coordinates with design personnel and applicable agencies.
  • Prepares precipitation, sedimentation, and reservoir operation reports for transmittals to higher authority and other agencies; may supervise activities of lower-grades technicians in this effort.
  • Prepares correspondence relating to the request for or transmittal of hydrologic data, or any other matters relating to the district’s instrumentation programs. Contacts and confers with Federal, State, and local agencies to exchange data and coordinate stream gaging and rainfall data collection.
  • Compiles and analyzes hydrologic data for use in studies or reports, and furnishes data to district elements and outside agencies. Develops area-capacity, curves and compiles capacity tablet from surveys for use in sedimentation studies. Plots and revises discharge rating curves from discharge measurements.
