The position is part of several research projects funded by the Swedish Research Council for Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning (FORMAS), the Swedish Research Council (VR), the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and the Swedish Research Council for health, working life and welfare (FORTE). The goals of these projects are to improve the knowledge about drought propagation and to identify sensitive regions that suffer from the most severe drought conditions. Furthermore, the projects aim at increasing our understanding of the perception of drought events among the general public and decision makers, as well as preparedness for drought events. We would also like to provide knowledge on how risk management objectives are interlinked with objectives in other sectors in Sweden, increase our understanding of how women are affected by droughts in India and identify barriers to implementing preparedness policies/strategies.

Insights into other research fields like e.g. gender studies, sociology or political science are desirable. The applicant must have basic computer skills. Good communication skills in English, both spoken and written, are required. Experience in GIS and remote sensing is an advantage. Experience in policy analysis, conducting interviews, planning/evaluating surveys and/or organizing stakeholder workshops would be an asset.

As a PhD student, you will be part of an international research environment while you expand your knowledge of the field and write your thesis. This gives opportunities for many inspiring conversations, a lot of autonomous work and some travel (especially to India).
