This position is located in the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Alaska Region, Sustainable Fisheries (SF) Division, with two vacancies in Juneau, AK.
Responsibilities
The Sustainable Fisheries (SF) Division implements fishery management plans and regulations for the Federally managed fisheries off Alaska. These plans and regulations govern catch share programs; bycatch management; catch monitoring and observer programs, and measures to mitigate the impact of these fisheries on protected species and essential fish habitat. As a Fish Management Specialist, you will perform the following duties:
- Work closely with a supervisor to prepare documents required to issue proposed or final regulations for fishery conservation or management actions.
- Assist to identify the potential effects of proposed fishery management actions on Endangered Species Act (ESA)-listed species.
- Work with a team to coordinate the internal review, approval, and implementation of federal fishery management plan amendments or regulatory amendments.
- Prepare discussion papers, briefing documents, response to comments, or agency correspondence.
