This position is estimated at 20 hours per week during the school year and/or the summer and is a part-time, intern position.
In addition to the responsibilities listed below, the intern may attend meetings and be assigned trainings to understand more about the GIS role.
Essential Job Duties
- Collecting location and other information about assets in the field using a mapping-grade Trimble GPS unit. Examples of assets the intern may be tasked with mapping include water meters, sewer clean outs, catch basins, and street signs.
- Entry of attribute information to existing mapped features.
- Researching old plans, building files, and other materials to find information to include in GIS.
- Document work in progress.
- Based on the selected candidate’s skills and interests, there are a wide variety of other projects the intern may be tasked with assisting on in order to gain experience and knowledge.
Selection CriteriaPrerequisite Skills:
- Excellent computer skills with the ability to learn quickly.
- Ability to communicate and work as part of a team.
- Flexibility and the ability to work independently.
- Resourceful and self-directed. Willingness to ask for assistance or clarification and to follow instructions.
- Enthusiasm and interest in working for local government with a demonstrated commitment to service.
- Some experience with Esri GIS software with the ability and desire to learn.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
