Washington Sea Grant (WSG) has an outstanding opportunity for a 75% FTE Crab Team Coordinator. This role is excellent for an individual with experience in volunteer training, coordination and education and with a background in community science activities and marine science. WSG Crab Team’s strength is in the commitment of the volunteers and partners who contribute to and support the program and its goals. The Crab Team Coordinator’s principal responsibilities are to recruit, train and support those program participants and ensure data quality by reviewing data submissions. The Coordinator also supports the Crab Team Program Manager in various program activities, including outreach, equipment purchases and distribution, access to monitoring sites and rapid response coordination and implementation. The Crab Team Coordinator position is an integral member of WSG’s Crab Team which is a program in WSG’s Marine Advisory Services, working independently but also cooperatively with WSG colleagues, university and government researchers, natural resource managers, coastal communities and the public. The WSG Crab Team is a Puget Sound-wide, early detection program for the invasive European green crab, and the coordinator must ensure that volunteer recruitment, training, monitoring and data reporting activities are timely and effectively communicated. Crab Team activities require frequent travel throughout the Puget Sound area, with more intense periods of travel in spring and summer for group and on-site training and education. The Crab Team Coordinator will have significant interaction with a large volunteer and partner community, and will be sensitive to their needs. WSG is housed within the UW College of the Environment and is a unique unit with federally designated responsibilities for all of Washington to support ocean-related research, education, outreach and communications. WSG serves the state and the region by providing inclusive technical assistance to coastal users and managers, engaging the public in activities that promote ecosystem health, educating students of all ages and backgrounds, and encouraging science-based solutions to marine issues. The Crab Team Coordinator serves as a conduit between the university and hundreds of Washington citizens and tribal, governmental and non-governmental partners, delivering and connecting them with current UW research, faculty, students and other university resources.
