Oceans and Ecological Conservation Intern
Paid Summer Internship – Seattle, WA

At Vulcan, we work to translate the vision of Paul G. Allen into impact through catalytic philanthropy, inspirational storytelling, and scientific and technological breakthroughs. We take innovative, unconventional approaches to tackling some of the world’s hardest problems – from restoring ocean health, to combating climate change, to taking on pandemics, to disrupting the cycle of homelessness.

The Oceans and Ecological Conservation Intern will work within our Oceans Program on project exploration, from landscaping subject areas to identifying Vulcan “ways in” to developing initial project designs and concept notes. The internship experience will result in a white paper, article or presentation of work summarizing their research and work through the summer. Applicants must be articulate, collaborative, imaginative, and exceptionally data driven.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Current graduate student with a background in ecology, preferably marine but terrestrial ecologists are welcome to apply
  • Past work experience in conservation particularly in the area of coastal ecosystems a big plus
  • Ability to provide in depth research and write clear and concise analyses
  • Experience building strong relationships and working effectively across functions in complex environments
  • Ability to multi-task, managing multiple projects and initiatives
  • Strong communication skills: written, verbal, presentation skills, professionalism and discretion
