Description
The Idaho Department of Water Resources has an opening for a Remote Sensing Analyst, Technical at the State Office in Boise, Idaho.
Example of Duties
- Plan, design, develop, schedule and conduct complex remote sensing analysis projects.
- Provide remote sensing and GIS application consultation as an agency and interagency consultant on remote sensing and GIS applications.
- Develop technical reports which clearly interpret remote-sensing data analysis.
- Design and develop GIS data to augment agency water resource databases using digital image processing, aerial photo and image interpretation, and GIS analysis.
- Plans and coordinates work to develop improved techniques and procedures to solve unusual problems requiring creativity in the modification on conventional practices.
- Provides lead work to professional and/or technical staff.
- Prepares technical reports documenting methodologies, scope, findings, and conclusions for publication in professional journals and/or presentation at professional conferences.
- Keeps current on remote sensing satellite mission operations and data characteristics.
Minimum Qualifications
- Considerable knowledge of:
- Remote sensing and GIS technology including theories, principles, analysis, data conversion, image interpretation, and digital image processing
- Remote sensing satellite mission operations and data characteristics, sampling design and cartographic principles
- Good knowledge of:
- Computer programming languages such as Fortran, C, AML, or object-orientated languages
- Relational database management
- Natural resource sciences
- Experience:
- Advanced planning, designing and implementing remote sensing and GIS applications and applied research projects
- Preparing reports and presentations of technical material
- Operating, applying, and programming ESRI software products, and/or ERDAS image processing software products
- Teaching and training adults in a group setting
Supplemental Information
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience using remote sensing data to develop products for water resource objectives
- Experience performing quality assessment on contracts in data acquisition or data analysis
- Experience computing, modeling and analyzing evapotranspiration from satellite imagery
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in geography, remote sensing, engineering, geographic information system technology, or a bachelor’s degree in natural resources with a degree specialization in GIS or remote sensing
This position acts as a lead to others and a consultant to the department and other agencies. Incumbents are involved in decision-making and project management requiring a high level of knowledge.
