DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Friends Native Plant Nursery and supporting native plant materials enterprise is the engine of the Friends stewardship program providing plant material, namely seed, for all Friends restoration and stewardship projects and, where capacity affords, plant material to support Rivers To Ridges Partner projects and other conservation objectives in the Willamette Valley.
The Nursery Manager operates our 2-acre native seed nursery, manages production, markets plant materials, and expedites sales of plant materials. The Nursery Manager will direct, supervise, or train interns, land stewards, nursery assistants, nursery assistant trainees, and volunteers. The Nursery Manager reports to the Stewardship Director who oversees all aspects of the Friends Stewardship Program.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS we seek
- Experience managing a plant-material production facility.
- Extensive experience with Integrated Approaches to Pest Management.
- Experience with maintenance and repair of nursery (agronomic) infrastructure.
- Experience managing contracts, marketing plant materials, plant production services, and expediting sales.
- Experience documenting methods & practices, preparing budgets, and reporting accomplishments.
- Experience supervising no fewer than 10 direct reports (interns, staff, and/or volunteers).
- Aptitude for public speaking.
REQUIRED OR PREFERRED EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND LICENSES
- Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management or related field (required). Advanced degree or three years of equivalent experience (preferred).
- Oregon driver’s license (required to secure an ODL within 1 month from date of hire).
- First Aid and CPR Training (preferred).
- Familiarity with Mac operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and FileMaker Database system.
WHAT WE OFFER
- An annual salary of $36,000 to $50,000 based on skills, qualifications, and experience.
