Since 1993, more than 1,000 young adults from across the US and 80 countries from around the world have come to Seattle, Washington to participate in an environmental leadership development program. These emerging environmental leaders make up our Corps Program, where they learn technical environmental restoration and hands-on leadership skills, all while building a close-knit community through caring for our natural world.
EarthCorps truly embraces the “think globally, act locally” concept. The lands and waters of Puget Sound are our classroom and our legacy. Corps members learn leadership and cross-cultural skills by working collaboratively, leading thousands of community volunteers each year, and executing technical environmental restoration projects including salmon stream restoration, native tree plantings, invasive plant removal, wetland and shoreline restoration, and trail construction around the Puget Sound region.
After the yearlong program, these young leaders return to their local communities and cities with the tools, skills, and enthusiasm needed to tackle the pressing issues of our time – including climate change, pollution, and ecological degradation– to create a better world for all of us.
Position Summary
EarthCorps seeks a full-time program director (PD) to lead the organization’s leadership development program for emerging environmental leaders. The ideal candidate is passionate about the intersection of environmental service, leadership development, and cross-cultural exchange. The PD is responsible for the strategic direction of the corps program and oversees all human resource management, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, coaching, and conflict management of the 50+ young leaders that participate in our program each year. This position will lead in refining/transforming the corps and our leadership curriculum to ensure equity and inclusion is at its core and that all graduates of our program have the skills to lead with a racial equity lens. We are looking for a strategic, innovative thinking that can also roll up their sleeves to get work done.
The PD is part of the organization’s management team and works closely with other senior staff to shape the overall management and direction of the organization, including helping to transform our organization to build a race equity culture. The PD reports to the Executive Director.

Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership, Management, and Planning (30%)
· Serves as a member of EarthCorps staff Management Team which includes strategic planning, organizational development, and strategic resource and budget planning.
· Works with board of directors.
· Effectively represents EarthCorps internally and externally.
· Actively works to create a race equity culture.
Plays a leadership role in staff training and development
Program Management (65%)
· Provides overall strategic leadership and ensures high quality programs for 50+ US and international participants.
· Supervises multiple staff, inspires staff trust, and fosters team spirit.
· Devise evaluation strategies to monitor performance and determine the need for improvements, ensuring programming remains relevant to participants and the world; Manage two active evaluations.
· Lead AmeriCorps proposal development, compliance, reporting, and relationship management.
· Oversees the recruitment of 40+ AmeriCorps members and approximately 15 international participants to our corps program. Oversees homestay recruitment and management for international participants.
· Oversees coaching and conflict management of corps program.
· Coordinates with Field Director to achieve contractual and programmatic goals.
· Establishes an overall annual program budget and monitors each program against said budget; Collaborates on earned and contributed revenue generation
· Serves as a primary emergency on-call lead for the organization.
Other duties as assigned (5%)
· Actively participates in all staff retreats, meetings, committees and workshops.
· We are a highly collaborative team and step in to support each other when needed
Required Qualifications
· Commitment to the EarthCorps mission and to the development of young adults.
· Minimum of 5 years of experience in developing and leading programs for young adults/talent development programs.
· Demonstrated management skills including staff supervision and development.
· Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
· A commitment to racial equity and environmental justice.
· Sincere commitment to working collaboratively and building relationships with a range of constituents including staff, corps members, alumni, volunteers, donors, board members, and external partners.
· Curiosity and creativity, and a willingness to try things out, listen, learn and continually grow and improve.
· Excellent problem solver and multi-tasker responsive to daily, weekly, ongoing deadlines.
· Ability to work some evenings and non-business hours as needed.
· Ability to travel regionally. Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
· Experienced and calm crisis manager desirable.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Salesforce desirable.
· Experience in the environmental field, ecology, or in a conservation corps/outdoor program desirable.
· Ability to cultivate funding relationships, and an entrepreneurial character desirable.

Compensation
SALARY of $74,000-88,000/year, dependent on experience
