Skagit Land Trust (SLT) is seeking an AmeriCorps Member to assist with our Outreach and Youth Programs, which serve our community by engaging the public in the protection of wildlife habitat, agricultural and forest lands, and other critical areas throughout Skagit County. The project goal is to share knowledge and skills to help build conservation-minded citizens in Skagit County. We engage community members of all ages and backgrounds in hands-on activities and learning opportunities at important natural areas and throughout the county.

As Education Associate, The AmeriCorps Member will expand the capacity of the Trust’s environmental education programs. Skagit Land Trust is working to train teachers and youth educators to teach from the land using SLT’s Conservation Classrooms program. The AmeriCorps Member will increase our ability to reach more schools and teachers within Skagit County. The Member will help to develop educational events for diverse audiences and increase community awareness of SLT properties open to the public. As Community Engagement Associate, SLT’s AmeriCorps Member will assist with promotion and execution of community events through the use of print and social media, and by volunteer recruitment and coordination. The Member will represent the Land Trust at public events.

Applicants should have an academic background in communications, environmental science or education, ecology, biology, or a related field. They should have strong communication skills, be organized and self- motivated. They should be comfortable working with the general public and youth, comfortable working outside in the elements, and able to work independently as well as in a team. This position is contingent on funding.

Pay: Monthly stipend of $1,450 through AmeriCorps program
Duration: September 1, 2020 – July 15, 2021
Benefits: Health Insurance provided by AmeriCorps program. After completing 1700 hours of service an education award of $6095.00 is available from AmeriCorps

Requirements:
• Must be at least 18 years old at time of enrollment
• Must reside in Washington State at time of enrollment
• Must be able to provide own transportation (mileage will be reimbursed)
• Must be willing to commit to 40 hours per week for the entire duration of the placement
• Interest and/or education related to ecology or environmental studies
• Interest and experience coordinating outdoor volunteer activities or training volunteers
• Skills with Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with graphics programs such as Adobe Photoshop is a plus.
• Experience with email programs such as MailChimp and social media sites
• Excellent organizational skills and communication skills (both written and verbal)
• Must be comfortable serving in the outdoors in inclement weather

Responsibilities and Duties:
• Assist Education and Volunteer Program Coordinator with development and implementation of Conservation Classroom activities for K-12 students, as well as coordinate youth field trips and service projects
• Assist with recruitment and coordination of volunteers for Skagit Land Trust events and work parties and maintain database of volunteer hours
• Assist with the coordination of community and volunteer activities, nature walks and other educational events
• Create flyers, posters, and other media to support volunteer recruitment and educational programs
• Assist with presentations about Skagit Land Trust to local clubs and organizations
• Assist in planning and volunteer coordination of annual SLT member events
• Assist in maintaining website and social media for outreach, education, and volunteer opportunities
• Other tasks as directed by supervisor
