BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW
The Friends of Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument is seeking a dynamic, dedicated Executive Director to take our organization to the next levels of success and impact. This small and thriving organization works in a close, friendly partnership with the Bureau of Land Management, the National Conservation Lands System, and other local and national conservation groups to increase public awareness of the Monument’s unique biological diversity, landscape, and cultural history. The Friends office is located in Ashland, Oregon.

We inspire people to protect, conserve, and restore the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument and to increase their awareness of the Monument’s unique biological diversity, landscape, and cultural history. We support the protection, restoration and conservation of Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument through service, advocacy and education.
We envision a healthy and vibrant Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument for present and future generations.
EXPECTED SKILLS
- Knowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to non-profit organizations
- Experience in community leadership / advocacy
- Strong public speaker
- Proven fundraising track record
- Nimble project manager
- Good budget management skills
- Experience in team building and managing people
- Working knowledge of Squarespace or similar website programs
- Comfortable with Social Media platforms
SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITY
- The Executive Director’s role includes supporting the organization’s strategic plan and providing the leadership to successfully implement it
- Work with Board of Directors and staff to shape and implement a strategic plan that is responsive to the current political environment and continues to build upon Friends successes
- Develop, alter or align programs, budgets and staffing to ensure successful implementation of the strategic plan
- Be responsible for evaluating the success of programs and ensuring that goals are met and the organization maintains the focus necessary to fulfill its mission
Fundraising:
- Ensure the continued financial health of the organization through effective fundraising including diversifying the organization’s current funding base
- Meet with individual donors and foundations, develop and maintain strong relationships with donors and enhance the Friends fundraising network
Budgeting and Financial Oversight:
- Develop an overall organizational budget and individual program budgets
- Ensure organizational financial transparency, compliance and accountability
Board Engagement:
- Provide consistent, timely and relevant organization information to the Board of Directors, including progress reports
- Attend all Board meetings
- Provide support of strategic planning efforts as guided by Board of Directors
- Ensure provision of administrative support for effective Board of Directors
Staff/Organizational Management:
- Maintain a climate that attracts, develops, and motivates a diverse staff of quality people
- Fill staff vacancies, mentor and coach staff and volunteers, and provide opportunities for advancement and leadership
Programs:
- Engage in Friends programs as appropriate and as identified in the strategic plan
- Working with coalitions and partners on campaign strategy development
- Encourage grassroots engagement and community building
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with Oregon state and federal elected officials, as well as conservation, business and cultural leaders
- Engage in Bureau of Land Management planning
- Plan and implement communications strategy and serve as a spokesperson for the Friends
- Ensure programs and campaigns have adequate resources, including applying for regional, state, and federal grant programs
QUALIFICATIONS
- Candidate will be thoroughly committed to Friends’ mission and will have proven leadership, fundraising, strategic planning and management experiences
- Cultural competency and the ability to work with a diverse group of people
- Demonstrate excellence in organizational management with the ability to supervise and mentor staff, nurture a healthy organizational culture
- Strategic thinker with a compelling future vision for the Friends and the Monument
- Commitment to building effective partnerships and collaborative efforts with a wide range of stakeholders
- Ability to make decisions in a timely manner
- Proven success working with a Board of Directors and the ability to cultivate new and existing Board member relationships
- Strong fundraising experience with the ability to engage and inspire a wide range of stakeholders
- A persuasive and effective communicator with excellent written and verbal skills
- Collaborative, action-oriented, adaptable, and innovative for long-term strategic planning
- Exhibits passion, idealism, integrity, maintains a positive attitude, a sense of humor, and is mission-driven and self-directed
- Ability to travel frequently and work some evening and weekend hours for meetings and events
