Wetland Technician

Responsibilities:

The successful Wetland Technician is interested in all aspects of restoration practices; from invasive plant identification in wild areas, native plant establishment, and promotion of sustainable practices in the green industry. The applicant should have excellent organizational skills, ability to document, and communicate while prioritizing restoration practices in the field.

The Field Technician position is a practitioner of projects ranging from highly designed urban constructed wetlands to remote conservation lands. The candidate should be able to take direction well while also working independently and forecast future material needs while creatively solving problems on site.

Requirements for all applicants:

  • 5 years of experience and/or possess a landscape/ornamental horticulture degree or certifications
  • 3 years of field experience in landscape/ecology/environmental restoration
  • Must be able to complete daily time tracking/job costing, work reports and to-do’s in a timely and articulate manner with above average writing skills
  • Ability to lead a crew of 2-4 members and to delegate tasks on site
  • Common PNW Plant Identification
  • Proper planting, mulching and watering techniques
  • Pruning techniques for plants growing in the PNW
    • Demonstrated knowledge of bonsai, Japanese Maple, or other specimen plantings is a plus
    • Natural/selective pruning techniques are a requirement
  • Ability to identify native and invasive plant species in diverse natural environments
  • Physical stamina to weed, treat, and remove invasive plant species, haul debris and compost in varied weather conditions
  • Planting of native plugs, shrubs, and trees
  • Must be able to prioritize work on site and work with maintenance teams and subcontractors toward a common goal
  • Knowledge and use of 2-cycle engines (i.e. line trimmers/brush-hogs)
  • Pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain in first 90 days)
  • Must have a positive and upbeat personality
  • Must speak English (bilingual is a plus)
  • Valid WA driver’s license, clean record, and ability to pass a background check

Pay Rate = $18-$23 per hour depending on experience/education
