Guided by our mission of Inspiring Conservation of Our Marine Environment, we’ve developed a master plan to substantially increase in size and impact by opening a new exhibit building, the Ocean Pavilion. Our current annual budget is $21 million.

 

Even though the Aquarium is temporarily closed to the public, we’re working hard to deliver on our mission and support the community by providing online educational content and digital experiences for families.

We’re doing everything we can to be reopened as soon as possible and, as an organization that embraces science, we will only reopen when city, county and state officials deem it safe for our staff and visitors.

This role will work remotely for the foreseeable future. Candidates must be able and have the ability to work from home, including having a reliable internet connection and suitable workspace.

The role:

 

Reporting to the director of marketing, the senior marketing manager will build and execute marketing campaigns to drive revenue and engagement, always guided by our mission of Inspiring Conservation of Our Marine Environment. This person will collaborate across the organization, working closely with the philanthropy team on fundraising campaigns and the membership team on customer acquisition and retention campaigns to advance the Aquarium’s priorities.

Here’s what you get to do:

 

• Marketing campaign creation: use inbound marketing tactics such as search engine optimization, social media, landing page conversion testing, online advertising and email marketing, to grow our database and drive revenue.
• Marketing campaign reporting: track and evaluate KPIs of all performance marketing channels and optimize overall marketing effectiveness in line with the budget and campaign goals.
• Online customer experience management: oversee online customer interactions and recommend changes to increase customer satisfaction and drive brand loyalty.
• Website maintenance: manage and publish website content updates, including blog content. Work with the web development team (external vendor) to recommend, review, test and implement web functionality improvements, both front end and back end. Be the expert in website integration with Satisfi Labs (chatbot), online forms, live streaming webcams. Manage external vendor relations regarding CMS system, website development and website hosting.
• Budget management: Ownership of the digital marketing budget, including reforecasting and scenario planning.
• Leadership and management: lead the team responsible for telling our brand story digitally. Manage the digital marketing manager. Collaborate with company leaders, teammates and across the organization to meet or exceed organizational and departmental goals; coordinate with human resources on all personnel-related matters.
• Other duties as assigned.

Experience you will bring to the team:

 

• B.S./B.A. in business, marketing, communications or related degree or a combination of education and at least seven years’ experience required. Will consider other equivalent combinations of education and experience.
• Proven track record of executing marketing campaigns that drive revenue and engagement.
• Highly analytical and able to derive meaning from data through A/B testing and email optimization.
• Proven supervisory skills and management of teams; three years’ experience supervising staff required.
• Proven ability to handle multiple, complex tasks simultaneously and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, both written and verbal.
• Must possess a strong work ethic, take initiative and be an enthusiastic team player.
• A self-starter with creativity and imagination.
• Must believe passionately in our mission and demonstrate our SALISH values.
• Proficiency with HTML/CSS, basic knowledge of Javascript and front-end development.
• Working knowledge of various web content management systems (CMS), especially SharePoint, WordPress and Drupal. Experience with Blackbaud NetCommunity and Raiser’s Edge a plus.
• Basic photo processing skills: crop, re-size, compress.

Salary and benefits:

 

This role is budgeted at $85,000–$95,000, depending on experience, plus participation in annual variable pay program. This role is eligible for the Seattle Aquarium’s comprehensive benefits package, which includes medical, vision, dental (subsidized dependent coverage also available), HRA, FSA, 403b retirement fund with employer matching funds, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, subsidized transit (ORCA) pass, Aquarium Family Plus membership and generous paid time off.
