Executive Director Job Description
The mission of the IPJC is to act for justice in the world and to respond to the ever-changing challenges. Grounded in the Catholic faith its vision is of a world based on the dignity of all persons and creation. This position reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for strategic planning in collaboration with the Board, staff, sponsoring communities, volunteers, including the Church and other social justice organizations.
Duties and responsibilities:
Board Governance:
- Work towards further defining IPJC’s vision and mission with the Board of Directors.
- In collaboration with the Board of Directors, establish a strategic plan, which incorporates education and advocacy.
- Consults with the Board of Directors and seeks their involvement to further IPJC’s outreach and enhance financial resources.
- Communicates to Board of Directors through regular and timely reporting to support their function and decision-making.
Mission and Strategy:
- Responsible for the implementation of the strategic plan.
- Promote the vision and mission of IPJC in conjunction with the strategic plan.
- Strategically enhance IPJC’s outreach based on social justice challenges and opportunities.
- Strengthen and cultivate new relationships in both the church and the larger social justice communities.
- Communicates regularly with sponsor and affiliate communities, annually seeks input on Justice, Integral Ecology and Care for Creation priorities.
- Initiates new programs and events in consultation with the Board of Directors and as appropriate with affiliates and sponsors.
- Coordinates research on current justice issues; oversees development of resources and publications; networks with local and national peace and justice organizations.
Operational management:
- Establishes and implements administrative policies and procedures.
- Hires and supervises staff, conducts annual performance reviews.
- Coordinates all administrative aspects to assure that the goals of the Center are met in an efficient and professional manner.
Financial Management:
- Project and manage responsibly the budget, planning for both short- and long-term goals.
- Set goals for revenue development including fundraising, grants, and donor development.
Fundraising, Marketing, and Publicity:
- Responsible for the management of fundraising.
- Secures both one-time grants and seeks ongoing revenue from diverse sources through campaigns and the cultivation of existing and new donors and partnering with others in the social justice world.
- Routinely schedules opportunities to speak on behalf of IPJC to promote its mission, vision, goals, and programs.
- Issues public statements and media releases and directs the press to the Board of Directors as needed.
- Manages publicity for advertising, educational and promotional literature, and events.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Commitment to IPJC’s mission, with respect and understanding for our work.
- Knowledge of the Catholic Church structure, culture, and Catholic Social Teaching.
- Knowledge of, experience with and a demonstrated passion for promoting social justice issues (care for creation, immigration, human trafficking, racism, etc.) and solidarity with people who are vulnerable.
- A minimum of three years or equivalent experience in a managerial administrative position, requiring a collaborative leadership style, with responsibility for strategic planning and successful plan implementation, including program development and fiscal and data management.
- Experienced working collaboratively with an active Board of Directors.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising and financial resource development.
- Demonstrated ability to research and provide education on social justice issues in presentations and multi-media formats.
- Effective interpersonal and public speaking skills, and written language strengths.
- Knowledge of and experience with the use of emerging technology.
- A flexible work schedule with ability to travel, attend meetings at various times through the day and week, including weekends and nights.
PREFERRED
- Master’s Degree or advanced training in a related field.
- Experience in advocacy, including issue campaign organizing at the local, state, and national level.
- Knowledge of and networking experience with social justice organizations locally, nationally and internationally.
- Marketing and publicity experience.
