We are looking for an individual with strong wetland mitigation and habitat restoration skills to be a part of the Public Works environmental permitting team. An individual who can assist with planning for projects of this nature and effectively coordinate the implementation and maintenance of these sites. We seek someone who can streamline the annual mitigation monitoring and reporting requirements and build strong working relationships with regulatory agencies. As a Mitigation Technician with Public Works you are responsible for all aspects of the county’s wetland mitigation program from on the ground implementation to closing out sites after 5 or 10 years. You will coordinate or perform the day to day operations of mitigation installation, maintenance, monitoring, and reporting to achieve successful mitigation sites for the county.

Education and Experience-
We will consider any combination of relevant work experience, volunteering, education, and transferable skills as qualifying unless an item or section is labeled required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Botany, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Horticulture or a related field
- Three years of progressively responsible related experience
- Experience with implementation and maintenance of large-scale wetland mitigation, habitat restoration, reforestation, or similar planting projects
- Experience measuring and monitoring plant populations, summarizing data, and reporting on performance standards
- Skill in the development of planting plans and map figures using ArcGIS or AutoCAD computer software
- Familiarity with various field computing tools including GPS and iPad for data collection
- Required a valid motor vehicle operator’s license at time of hire

- Implements the county’s mitigation, stormwater, and roadside planting programs
- Performs mitigation monitoring and reporting for all of the county’s wetland and habitat mitigation sites
- Prepares or develops cost estimates, special provisions, and contract plans for implementation of mitigation sites and other planting plans
- Inspects plants, planting, and plant maintenance activities performed by contractors and internal county staff
- Coordinates maintenance and irrigation of county mitigation sites with work crews, contractors, and other resources as necessary
- Coordinates noxious weed control in mitigation sites with internal county staff
- Performs or prepares planting plans or designs for mitigation sites, right-of-way planting strips and stormwater facilities
- Performs other duties as assigned
Salary Grade
Local 17 Engineers.210 ($31.05 – $39.63) per hour
