A free “Share The Stream” bike tour of Dixon Creek will be held Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm. Open to the public, stream tourists will explore this hidden treasure of Corvallis while travelling by bike or City trolley (limited seating) along this meandering waterway. Dixon Creek begins on Dimple Hill and IV Hill above the Timberhill residential area, flows under more than 25 roads, by three schools, plus many businesses, churches and homes before its final run into the Willamette River by the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Tourists will stop at five stream sites hosted by experts who will show how we impact this urban stream that we shared with both aquatic and terrestrial animals. Sites include constructed wetlands, raingardens, bioswales, streambank restoration, special fish habitats and a fish ladder where Dixon Creek flows into the Willamette River. Participants will hear and see how we have changed Dixon Creek over the past 150 years and what we are doing now to revive some of its historic environmental and cultural services.

Bike tourists ride as a group with its own tour guide and will travel meander a meandering course to inspect over 20 stream crossing along the way.

Trolley tourists – A separate tour guide will direct trolley riders attention to additional historic and current sites of interest along the stream course.

The tour is the sixth annual urban stream tour sponsored by Benton Soil and Water Conservation District, the City of Corvallis, the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition Water Action Team and the Marys Peak Group of the Sierra Club.

All participants must pre-register.
