Planning Commission

The term of three positions representing District No. 4, “Environmental Community”, and “Architecture, Historic Preservation, and/or Urban Design” will expire on June 30, 2013. The City Council is seeking interested and qualified citizens to fill the positions serving a 3-year term through June 30, 2016. To be eligible, citizens interested in the District No. 4 position must reside in that district, and citizens interested in the other two positions should have the background or interest in the respective areas of expertise.

 

Meetings are held 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month at 4:00 p.m. Applications must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office by Friday, June 14, 2013.

 

 

Sustainable Tacoma Commission

Residents who want to participate in the implementation of Tacoma’s Climate Action Plan, as the City and community reduce greenhouse gas emissions, are encouraged to apply for membership on the Sustainable Tacoma Commission.

 

The Tacoma City Council is looking for two commission members who provide a balanced representation of various stakeholders, including the environmental community, small business, labor, housing, industry and port, transportation, education, the building industry and residents. One appointment will fill a vacated position. This appointment expires on April 30, 2014. A second appointment is for a three-year term. This appointment expires on April 30, 2016. All Commissioners are eligible to re-apply for an additional three-year term.

 

The Commission is intended to bring citizen accountability, transparency and vigilance to the long-term implementation of Tacoma’s Climate Action Plan. The Commission is also charged with overseeing, coordinating, communicating and encouraging public involvement regarding broader sustainability initiatives.

 

Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month from 3:30-5:30 . Applications are due May 31, 2013

 

 

Transportation Commission

The Tacoma City Council is looking for 11 members for the newly established Transportation Commission.

The Transportation Commission will advise Council on transportation-related matters, such as short-term and long-range transportation planning, compliance with local, regional and federal transportation regulations, bike, pedestrian and mass transit-related planning initiatives, and parking and capital improvement plans.

The commission will consist of 11 members – nine voting members appointed by the City Council who are City residents, with representatives from each of the City’s five Council Districts, who bring a range of perspectives and expertise that focus on the City’s long-term vision for mobility options throughout the City, and two non-voting members appointed by the City Manager. It is recommended that the members appointed reflect the following categories of special interest/discipline: professional engineering sector, construction/private business sector, bike and pedestrian/mass transit sector, planning/urban growth sector, environmental/sustainability sector, general community and ADA community.

Regularly scheduled meeting dates and times have not yet been established for this commission. Applications are due June 21, 2013.
