Description:    Conduct GPS inventory of noxious and invasive weeds on National Fish and Wildlife Refuges across the country.

Wage:           $13.00 – $14.50  per hour

Employment Period:              May 16 – Aug 26, 2011  (40 hours per week)

Job Details:  Inventory and map invasive weeds on National Wildlife Refuges in the southeast including North Carolina, Kansas, Massachusetts, and California.  A typical work schedule will consist of 4-5 consecutive 10-hour days per week.  Crews will be at the work site for 3-5 consecutive weeks at a time.  Crew members will stay on location during each weekly work period and may need to provide their own camping gear.  A vehicle will be provided for on-site use and travel between work locations.  Housing and a living allowance will be provided.

Required Skills:  Weed identification, topographic map reading, mountain orienteering, and GPS operation. Must be able to hike at least 50 miles per week alone in mountainous terrain.  Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license and must meet USU’s defensive driving certification requirements.  Preference given to applicants 1) with weed inventory and mapping experience, and 2) having completed university courses in plant identification, weed science, plant taxonomy, and ecology.
