Job Description:

Assists in the coordination and implementation of the Water and Sediment Quality Improvement Action Plans, Research Action Plan and the Galveston Bay Regional Monitoring Program of The Galveston Bay Plan of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Provides support in the development and implementation of initiatives with bay stakeholders to protect and restore water and sediment quality. Coordinates, and tracks the Water and Sediment Quality and Research actions of The Galveston Bay Plan and the Monitoring Program by providing technical assistance to the subcommittees composed of the appropriate stakeholders, in collaboration with senior staff.

Procures goods and services through contracts and inter-agency agreements with outside organizations to accomplish implementation of specific initiatives in The Galveston Bay Plan (Water and Sediment Quality and Research) and The Galveston Bay Regional Monitoring Plan; and tracks and assures completion of deliverables. Assists in the implementation of the Galveston Bay Regional Monitoring Program, including coordination of the Galveston Bay Data Information Management System; and coordination of bay-wide data collection, analysis and reporting activities. Provides technical assistance as needed to local governments, federal and state agencies, and other key stakeholders involved in estuarine research and water quality management.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in a natural or physical science, engineering, environmental studies, or related field (COPY OF OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED WITH APPLICATION).

One year of full-time experience in the field of environmental activities may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education.

Preferred Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree with a major in natural or physical science, environmental studies, engineering or related natural resource management field.

Experience managing a water quality-related program, and establishing and/or tracking program goals and objectives.

Contract management experience.

Experience conducting ecological research, long term monitoring, and/or establishing GIS databases.

Experience working with a federal program related to water quality and/or quality assurance.

Experience working with stakeholder groups and running stakeholder participation meetings, specifically groups focused on research issues and /or water quality issues.
