Natural Resource Technician 2 (Full-time; Permanent)

The Department of Fish and Wildlife is recruiting one (1) full time, permanent, Natural Resource Technician 2 located in the Wildlife Program, Region 2. The duty station for this position is at the Columbia Basin Wildlife Area located in Moses Lake with work performed throughout Grant County.

The Department of Fish and Wildlife’s mission is to preserve, protect and perpetuate fish, wildlife and ecosystems while providing sustainable fish and wildlife recreational and commercial opportunities. A key role of the Wildlife Program/Lands Division in achieving this mission is to preserve and protect wildlife habitats, provide sound stewardship of WDFW-managed lands, and provide fish and wildlife related recreational opportunities. This position will provide support for the Columbia Basin Wildlife Area land manager by providing technical support for management of state managed lands.

DUTIES:

Primary duties include the following: Habitat management and enhancement

Wetland and associated upland vegetation management using mechanical, chemical and cultural control methods, using tractors and implements, herbicide applications, biological controls and establishing desirable vegetation.

Enhance/establish habitat by cultivation and planting, and vegetative composition manipulation.

Repair, maintenance and operation of water control structures

  • ·  Operate water control structures to provide open water habitats for migrant waterfowl.
  • ·  Repair and maintain water control structures and associated dikes, by controlling invasive weeds, armoring, and establishing vegetation to control erosion. Operate and maintain equipment.

· Operate and maintain a variety of equipment including tractors, track loader, trucks, pickups, 4-wheel ATV’s, boats, sprayers, and power and hand tools.

Post signs.
· Post informational, regulatory, boundary signs.

Administration.
· Weekly reports, purchasing administration, timesheets and accounting, weed control reports, training.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualifications-Preferred
Graduation from high school or GED, including 1 year of high school science and 1 year of experience as a Natural Resource Technician 1 or 2 or Scientific Technician 1 or 2.

OR
Graduation from high school or GED, including 1 year of high school science and 2 years of laboratory or field experience as an assistant biologist, zoologist or chemist.

College coursework involving major study in biology, zoology, fisheries, wildlife, chemistry, natural sciences, or a closely allied field will substitute, year for year, for experience, provided the coursework includes at least 6 semester or 9 quarter hours of natural science classes.
Pesticide Applicator’s License.

Commercial Driver’s License.
Prior experience in farming operations. Plant and/or weed identification. Boating safety certification.

REQUIRED

Valid Washington State, or other state, driver’s license is required.
