Online Resource: Pacific Herring – Past, Present and Future
As many of you know, Pacific Herring are one of the Vital Signs of Puget Sound recovery. Herring stocks require clean water and natural shorelines, so their continued survival depends on maintaining links between nearshore and open-water habitats. The “Pacific Herring – Past, Present and Future” website, found at www.pacificherring.org, invites you to cultural and ecological importance of Pacific Herring on the west coast of North America. On this site, you can listen to and read accounts from scientists, indigenous peoples, local fishers, community organizers and fisheries managers about the past, present and future of this important fish. I learned of this resource at the Salish Sea Conference and I hope you find it useful in your education programs!

New App To Report Sightings Of Invasive Species
Washington Invasive Species Council has recently released a smartphone app for members of the public to report sightings of invasive species. Users of the Washington Invasives App will be able to take a photo of plants and animals that they think might not belong here. Experts will then identify the species before uploading the photos to a statewide map. More information can be found here:http://www.invasivespecies.wa.gov/documents/MobileAppFlyer_031414.pdf

Marine Debris Video
Oregon Sea Grant has produced a video highlighting their derelict fishing gear program in the context of the larger issue of marine debris. It may be useful for those of you with programs on this topic. The video is viewable here: https://vimeo.com/92878422 and here: youtube.com/watch?v=_HoZX3qsYXQ
