The Research Services unit at the Washington State Department of Commerce anticipates needing paid research assistance this summer. We’re looking for one or more students or recent grads with solid research, writing, and project coordination chops. An interest and some background in renewable energy and/or maritime industry policy are a plus.

The top candidate or candidates will be matched with a project or projects that best fit their skills, interests, and availability. Hours could range from an average of 10 per week to as much as half time. Pay is commensurate with experience; the position or positions will be nonpermanent and without benefits. However, this is a great opportunity to gain professional experience and build a network in an agency with one of the broadest policy bandwidths in state government. Many of our research assistants move into permanent positions either with Research Services or elsewhere at Commerce.

To apply for a position, send an email to steve.salmi@commerce.wa.gov that describes your interests and attach a resume, one or two research or policy-oriented writing samples, and contact information for three references. These positions are open until filled but review of applications will begin Friday, June 13.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Steve by email or call him at 360/725-5034.
