Postdoctoral Fellow in Water and Environmental Governance

Postdoctoral Fellow in Water and Environmental Governance
The Water Policy and Governance Group (wpgg.ca) at the University of Waterloo is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to help launch a new environmental governance project. This is a one year position, based in the Department of Environment and Resources Studies, Faculty of Environment. The preferred start date is September 2, 2014 (or as soon as possible thereafter). The salary is $50,000/year plus benefits in accordance with University of Waterloo employment policies.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will work with Dr. Rob de Loë to launch a new project: Rethinking Water Governance: Towards a New Agenda for Research and Practice. This project seeks to lay the foundation for a more systemic approach to governance for water in Canada, one which takes account of critical external considerations such as changes in demand for food and energy, population shifts, and climate change. Actors, institutions and drivers typically viewed as external to water governance are a specific concern in the project.
The successful candidate will play a leadership role in helping to lay the foundation for this work. Key tasks will include (1) solidifying the theoretical foundation; (2) undertaking a literature review that evaluates awareness and understanding of external considerations that affect water and environmental governance outcomes; and (3) designing a scoping exercise that identifies and evaluates the significance for governance of links between water and larger social-ecological systems. These tasks will require the Postdoctoral Fellow to work closely with Dr. de Loë, and to interact with WPGG students, partners and collaborators working on related projects.
