Natural Resource Worker 2
(Career Seasonal, Full-time)
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is recruiting to fill one full time, career seasonal Natural
Resource Worker 2 position located in the Wildlife Program, Region 1. The duty station is 1049 Port Way,
Clarkston, Asotin County. The anticipated start date is as soon as possible with 2 to 3 months employment
duration for the season. The career seasonal period will be March to November each year.
The Natural Resource Worker 2 position is under the direction from the Fish & Wildlife Biologist 2 assigned to
the Blue Mountains Wildlife Area Complex that will carry out the duties of noxious weed control activities, as
well as habitat improvement/maintenance projects.
DUTIES:
· Habitat maintenance and improvement
Tasks include:
Apply herbicides to control noxious weeds, use mechanical equipment such as tractor-pulled mowers,
ATV mounted sprayers, backpack sprayers, truck mounted sprayers, and gas-powered hand tools to
control vegetation. Assist with habitat manipulation by planting annual and perennial crops for the
benefit of wildlife using a wide variety for agricultural equipment including wheel tractors, track-type

tractors, plows, discs, cultivators, rod-weeders, harrows, ATVs, etc.
· Stock and Elk fence maintenance
Tasks include:
Maintain/fabricate boundary stock fence throughout the wildlife area complex. Also maintain/fabricate
elk fence located on the Umatilla National Forest and the Blue Mountains Wildlife Area Complex.
Operate ATVs, off-road vehicles, and hand-held power tools to accomplish this task.
· Equipment and Vehicle Operation and Maintenance
Tasks include:
Maintains, repairs, and transports wildlife area equipment including: Wheel tractors, track-type tractors,
large trucks, equipment trailers, ATVs, dump trucks, large trucks, excavators, 4X4 pickups, shop
equipment, gas-powered hand tools, and regular shop tools.
· Reporting, Training, Office Work, and Other
Tasks include:
Fill out and maintain notes on weekly work activities. Attend required training activities to maintain
CDL license, Washington Public Operator Pesticide License, and Blue Card firefighting certification.
Keep up to date on safety training activities identified in the agency safety training matrix. Also assist
other programs as directed (bighorn sheep captures, etc.).
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school graduation or GED and three months of natural resource related labor experience.
OR
One year as a Natural Resource Worker 1.
College coursework involving major study in biology, zoology, fisheries, wildlife, chemistry, natural sciences, or
a closely allied field will substitute, year for year, for experience, provided the coursework includes at least 6
semester or 9 quarter hours of natural science classes.
The qualified applicant will possess a current valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
A valid Washington or other State Driver’s License
PREFERRED:
Incumbents will be required to obtain one or more specialized skill qualifications or licenses, including but not
limited to:
First aid training certification
Public Pesticide Applicators License
ATV safety training certification
Blue Card Level Firefighting certification
Experience is based on full time equivalency (i.e., 40 or more hours/week). Part time work is prorated (e.g., 20
hours/week for 6 years = 3 years of experience). Do not count experience that was a part of your educational
requirements.
