Education Manager
Nauvoo AL
The Cahaba Environmental Center (CEC) is seeking an Education Manager with a strong background in environmental education and nonprofit management to aid in the creation of a residential environmental education center and field science school located south of Birmingham, Alabama.
Based out of the Living River Site, the Education Manager will work directly with the CEC Director to design CEC programs, develop program curriculum, and actively recruit participants and potential donors. Once the CEC is established, the Education Manager will focus on overseeing all educational aspects of the program, including curriculum and staff development.
The CEC is currently under construction on the Living River Site. The Site is a breathtaking tree-covered point nestled in a deep bend in the Cahaba River, preserving a mix of hardwoods and older trees that were once typical of Alabama’s river bottoms but elsewhere have been logged and replaced with faster-growing pines. The site is 440 acres in size, and because of its unique location, fronts over four miles of the river. The Cahaba is Alabama’s longest free-flowing river and one of the most biodiverse rivers in the United States.
The position of Education Manager requires maturity, initiative, enthusiasm, a sense of humor, flexibility, and team spirit, as well as a respect and affinity for children and the environment. An ideal candidate will have at least 2-3 years experience in the field of residential environmental education, at least 1-2 years in nonprofit management, and a solid background in natural history, preferably in the Southeast.
The Education Manager will live on-site at Living River and must be available some nights and weekends. The position will be supervised by the Director of the Cahaba Environmental Center. Benefits for the position include housing, utilities, health insurance, retirement, a competitive salary, and a fulfilling and exciting career.
A detailed job description is available upon request. Applicants should send their resume, cover letter, and at least 3 references to Kim Hall at cec@livingriver.org. Applications will be accepted until October 6th, 2014.
