The Director of Plant Operations & Sustainability is responsible for the College’s total physical plant operations including coordination of all new construction, maintenance of all current buildings and grounds, utilities, energy management systems and safety/security in order to provide a safe, healthy and comfortable environment for students, faculty and staff. The Director is responsible for coordination of the College’s Green Campus Initiative.

This position provides leadership, vision, strategic planning and oversight in the management of college-wide resources in facilities, grounds and physical plant operations. This position also works collaboratively with the director of facilities management at Lasell Village.

Responsibilities:
The Director of Plant Operations & Sustainability, while reporting to Vice President of Business and Finance preforms the following duties, but are not limited to:

• Administers the strategic planning, development, control and implementation of the College’s capital improvement program.
• Prepares and recommends the overall budget, within fiscal guidelines, for all building and grounds and public safety activities; controls expenditures during the year to assure operation within budgeted levels.
• Routinely communicates with all levels of the Lasell community (Senior Management, Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, students and parents) as well as with neighbors and the various officials, committees and offices of the City of Newton.
• Works collaboratively with the Director of Construction Projects and the Director of Facilities at Lasell Village.
• Coordinates the College’s Green Campus Initiative and provides leadership to and collaboration with the Environmental Sustainability Committee. Takes the lead on all campus climate (AAUCP) matters.
• Serves as project director for all building projects on campus, assuring federal and state contract compliance, timely completion of tasks, and satisfactory sub-contractor performance of any College construction or remodeling projects; oversees external contractors and vendors providing services and/or equipment for facilities operations.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree plus at least 10 years of progressively responsible experience at the management level in a complex facilities environment is required (in higher education preferred) or, a combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of this position.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.) is required.
• Supervisory experience required. Excellent project management skills and ability to routinely multi-task are essential.
• LEED AP certification preferred.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and a driving record with no surcharge events for the past three (3) years.
