Wind & Site Engineer

Vestas – American Wind Technology has an immediate opening for a Wind and Site Engineer to work out of our Portland, Oregon headquarters. This position is responsible for developing customer specific technical and commercial solutions in support of Wind Power Systems business development within Vestas-American Wind Technology Inc. This includes providing direct support on the determination, development, and presentation of solutions to Vestas customers up to, including and following the completion of sales agreements.

Responsibilities

Maintain sales and project processes involving technical and commercial responses to customers, consultants and colleagues, primarily Business Development Managers.

Maintain up to date knowledge on technical developments of the wind turbine design, installation, operation and maintenance.

Attend trade shows, conferences and seminars.

Interface with the Corporate R&D department; Product Managers and Load Managers.

Perform wind and site analyses, including determination of wind resource and site characteristics.

Develop wind turbine site layouts and select turbine configurations based on conformance with standards, power production, construction considerations and cost.

Verify wind turbine design life thru load calculations.

Qualifications

Requires bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably within Mechanical or Renewables Engineering, or a related certification in the mechanical/renewable/technical field and 3-5 years’ experience; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Working experience within the wind energy industry highly desired.

Demonstrated knowledge and skill in working with computers and common software applications. Knowledge and skill in working with industry specific software applications, including WAsP, WindPRO, WAsP Engineering highly desired.

Experience using aero-elastic modeling packages for wind energy applications highly desired.

Experience using MATLAB and R software packages highly desired.

Requires excellent analytical and methodical skills.

Requires high level oral and written communication skills AND good customer service skills to work with customers, consultants and cross-functional teams.

Ability to work in a constantly changing environment.

Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Ability to travel based on customer needs and overall company objectives.

Knowledge within the field of meteorology preferred.

Working knowledge of sales & marketing business processes preferred.
