Brandeis University is seeking a Manager of Sustainability Programs. With a dual report to the Executive Director of Facilities and the Vice President for Campus Operations, this person will build and develop a broad campus sustainability program focusing on all aspects of operational practices and campus life, and will also be responsible for identifying opportunities for connecting to research, curriculum, and other university areas. The essential purpose of this position is to lead and coordinate others in pursuit of a more sustainable Brandeis campus. Schedule / hours will have some flexibility, due to this position requiring some attendance on evenings and weekends.
Examples of Key Responsibilities:
- Works in close coordination with students, faculty and staff and oversees the development of goals and tactics to advance current efforts and to identify new program opportunity areas. Establishes priorities for program implementation. Develops and implements project plans.
- Fosters a culture of sustainability among students, faculty, and staff; identifies and prioritizes areas for institutional sustainability efforts; plans and develops long- and short-range programs; and engages with institutional leaders to foster sustainability broadly across campus departments and offices.
- Works with stakeholders on areas such as Energy, Solid Waste, Food, Water, Procurement, Recycling and Capital Projects to advance leading operational practices and initiating steps to convene academic stakeholders.
- Supports marketing, communications, awareness and engagement of the internal and external community through:
- Institutional updates
- Web and print portals
- Events and presentations
- Leads the development and maintenance of performance metrics to track program effectiveness including institutional benchmarking and monitoring peer institution activities. Develops reports and manage related submissions such as Annual Green House Gas Inventory, ACUPCC, STARS, etc.
- Evaluates program progress and develop updates for Senior Administration. Develops and implements recommendations for program improvements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Environmental Science or Sustainability related degree preferred
- Minimum 3 years of total relevant experience, preferably including campus sustainability team experience
- Must have a strong background in all aspects of sustainability in a campus environment, including energy and water conservation, recycling, waste minimization, sustainable building and landscape design, and Green products
- Must have excellent written and oral communications skills, be self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision
- Must have strong leadership skills and be able to work closely with the entire campus community, including students, faculty, and staff
- Must be competent in Microsoft Office and capable of developing EXCEL spreadsheets, Power Point presentations, and reports
