Meet Otto VanGeet, Senior Engineer at NREL
Presenting on March 19th
Otto VanGeet is a Senior Engineer at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Most of Otto’s work is in the Federal Energy Management Program. He has been involved in the design, construction, and operation of energy efficient research facilities such as labs and data centers as well as office and general use facilities. His experience also includes renewables screening and assessment, passive solar building design, use of design tools, photovoltaic (PV) system design for on and off grid applications, energy audits, and minimizing energy use and GHG generation for building communities.

Listen to the podcast where solar siting expert Otto defines “renewable screening,” what types of sites are opening up for PV development, and what may be the most under-utilized places for solar energy projects.
He even identifies his favorite solar project in this 9 min audio interview.
Then register for the March 19th webinar and get a chance to ask Otto VanGeet, and fellow NREL Senior Engineer, Brett Oakleaf, about clean energy innovation.
Spring “Cleaning” – Innovative Energy Solutions on Institutional Property
Thursday, March 19, 2015
1:15pm – 2:45pm EST
NREL’s analysis informs various stakeholders on technological, environmental, policy and economic decisions as energy-efficient and renewable energy technologies advance from concept to commercial application to market penetration. With objective, technology-neutral analysis, NREL aims to increase the understanding of energy policies, markets, resources, technologies, and infrastructure and connections between these and economic, environmental, and security priorities.
Registrants will learn about:
1) Background on NREL (only DOE lab focused on renewable energy & energy efficiency)
2) NREL’s Work on DOD, US Governmental, Tribal, and International projects
3) Highlight NREL’s campus as a living laboratory
4) Site Screening & Assessment (i.e. description of proprietary tool – REOpt)
5) Net Zero Energy Building Design & Retrofit initiatives
6) Microgrid evaluations (i.e. Miramar, etc)
7) Transportation
8) Data Center Optimization
9) ESI – high level description of latest capabilities across Energy Systems Integration
10) Results
Also Speaking on March 19th:
- Brett Oakleaf, Senior Engineer – Brett has over 20 years of broad utility experience, including business development, resource planning, project management, and operations (i.e. transmission, distribution, marketing, trading, generation).
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) of the U.S. Department of Energy is Leading Clean Energy Innovation! Therefore, NREL and The Security & Sustainability Forum are presenting this introduction into NREL’s unique research-based capabilities across a wide spectrum of renewable energy and energy efficiency focus areas. This presentation is coupled with NREL’s strong interest in working with institutions and other team members to build upon and advance its own clean research efforts.
