NOAA’s Alaska Fisheries Science Center (AFSC) is hiring two new positions through the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission. A cultural anthropologist position will be hired for research support and to help advance the social science research program. A data management specialist II position will be hired for research support and data collection and management. The successful candidates will support the Economic and Social Science Research Program at AFSC in Seattle, WA. They will work with AFSC’s social scientists and economists on a variety of research projects, including a combination of the following: 1) development of indices of fishing community vulnerability and well-being; 2) qualitative analysis of interviews conducted in a ground-truthing exercise associated with the vulnerability indices project; 3) analyzing data collected in a survey of community leaders in Alaska; 4) conducting social network analyses of Alaskan community and fisheries connections; and 5) creating a social baseline of the Gulf of Alaska trawl fishery. Additional projects may be developed over time. The positions will be located at AFSC in Seattle.
