The Planning Analyst’s primary role is to perform economic modeling to quantify the value delivery of NEEA’s initiatives. The analyst is an integral part of an interdisciplinary team dedicated to bringing affordable energy efficient products and services to market in a sustainable manner.
The economic modeling encompasses both long-term forecasting of market adoption, energy saving results and cost/benefit analysis, as well as short-term/annual reporting to industry utility partners for regulatory purposes.
This position requires a high-level of cross-functional aptitude. Core to the role is the ability to listen, translate and synthesize perspectives from various functions and sources, including primary and secondary market research, in order to create a singular set of assumptions for valuation modeling. The planning analyst is responsible for communicating these assumptions and corresponding results to ensure full team alignment and to manage variance reporting as assumptions are adjusted.
This is a highly responsible position that requires top-notch quantitative modeling, critical thinking, and communications skills. The analyst will need to be highly inquisitive to learn and understand new products and services within the energy efficiency industry.
The analyst will be responsible for ensuring that work products are accurate, defensible, and delivered in a timely manner to support periodic reporting needs and organizational decision-making.

Essential Functions:
Develop understanding of ACE model and other energy efficiency modeling tools, including interrelation of key assumptions to the key model outputs. Verify and ensure quality inputs for cost-effectiveness analysis and energy savings forecasts of proposed and existing projects using NEEA’s methodology. Validate model outputs with reasonableness checks, and provide high-level review of model results.
Develop and implement clear documentation of models and inputs that are suitable for review by both internal and external audiences that will range from non-technical to highly engaged technical reviewers.
Understand and document sources for model inputs; analyze, interpret and apply a variety of data (sociological, economic, technical, demographic, etc.) to the model; and continuously seek updated data sources.
Manage updates and structural changes in existing forecast models for specific energy efficient technologies or services. Can initiate sensitivity and scenario analyses.
Able to clearly communicate results of modeling analysis to planning team and program team. Understands how key assumptions relate to program strategy and can create risk and upside assessments to program goals.
Prepare and present detailed reports using tables, charts and narratives appropriate for a wide variety of audiences ranging from project management staff to the Board of Directors to utility planners.
Track, analyze and report energy savings from NEEA projects including quarterly and annual summary reports of overall NEEA accomplishments and cost-effectiveness.
Proactively engage project and management staff to build consensus of model inputs and outputs in order to keep the models current.
Identify needs and manage process for continuous review and refinement of project cost-effectiveness and energy savings.
Assess needs, identify issues and implement changes to NEEA methodology as appropriate and approved by management and Board.
Organize, structure, and maintain both electronic and paper filing systems that are clear and easily accessible by internal staff.
Foundational understanding of excel and ability to retrieve data from database tools.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities over NEEA staff.
Education and/or Experience; Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
Bachelor’s degree in, economics, finance, business or public administration, or a closely related field required.
Two or more years of professional experience in financial planning or analysis, operations research or economic analysis and modeling required.
An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that would provide the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the successful performance of the essential job duties.
