The City of Salem is looking for a Natural Infrastructure Specialist. The position will oversee the City’s natural areas such as swales, rain gardens or wetlands and lead staff that assists in the maintenance of green infrastructure. The Natural Infrastructure Specialist plans and implements projects that enhance or restore natural infrastructure. The position acts as a a lead worker by developing work plans that include planting designs, time, material and labor estimates. Position will coordinate and lead work crews, train others in natural system management techniques, and write technical reports.The coordination of staff and projects constitutes a major portion of the work.

Examples of Work:
Plan, organize, and manage re-vegetation projects that protect, restore or enhance natural infrastructure. Evaluate sites to determine plant and infrastructure deficiencies. Develop project plans that include materials and staffing estimates, specifications and planting designs. Select and purchase appropriate native plant species. After planting, monitor site for changing conditions and evaluate progress of project goals; take corrective action due to changing site conditions.

Monitor natural infrastructure sites for compliance with regulations and permit requirements. Evaluate plant development, irrigation needs, invasive species, hydrology, wild life presence and seed development; decide measures to correct deficiencies; alter current or develop new work plans to achieve improved natural resource conditions.

Salary: $23.64 – $28.90 an hour
