Sustainable Cities Program Coordinator
The Sustainable Cities Program (SCP) is an innovative community-engagement program that coordinates existing courses throughout the university and across disciplines to serve a single city during an entire academic year. The goals of the SCP are to (1) provide students with a real world project to investigate; (2) apply concepts learned in the classroom to solutions; and (3) provide valuable service to a local city. This model was created by University of Oregon and has since been adopted by several universities in the US. 2015 will mark the first year of this type of program at Western Washington University. About the Position: The Sustainable Cities Program (SCP) Program Coordinator will coordinate, organize, and manage the activity related to matching academic opportunities with city (or other entity) partners. The Program Coordinator must ensure that students maximize their educational experience resulting in high-quality deliverables to the city. The position reports to the Campus Sustainability Manager and Academic Program Director. This position will require a self-motivated person with an energetic, passionate, and professional work style. Position holder will need to be able to work well independently as well as part of a team and will require travel within 2 – 3 hours of Bellingham several times a year as well as some overnight and weekend work.
