Description:
The purpose of this position is to coordinate the neighborhood Solid Waste programs including the neighborhood cleanup and chipper programs and the spring and fall cleanup programs. Coordinates with the contracted hauler to provide recycling education trainings to residents. Performs plan review for new construction and attends pre-construction meetings conducted by the City’s construction program. Coordinates closely with the Public Works Information Office to carry out city-specific and regional solid waste messages, outreach, education and promotion including traditional and social media. Manages special projects as needed.
Maintains a schedule of cleanup and chipper days by keeping a calendar, confirming schedules with the contracted hauler and city operations crews and following up with the requester. Monitors neighborhood newsletters to be sure published dates and event hours match the request. Review, track and monitor billings. Assist neighborhood volunteers with questions about policy and procedures. Manages on site resources during the day of the event. Drive a city vehicle in a safe and appropriate manner in order to travel efficiently between work sites.
Reviews plans for new construction to ensure compliance with VMC 20.970 – truck access and adequacy of enclosure size for garbage and recycling containers. Coordinates with contracted hauling company to address service concerns and alert the company of future needs. Attends pre-construction meetings with contractors to review solid waste hauling regulations and requirements.
Provides outreach and education about solid waste programs in the form of news releases, social media posts, updates on the online reminder and material reference tool, website information and resource documents. Coordinates and collaborates with solid waste regional partners.
Administers the annual spring and fall coupon programs including distributing coupons, reviewing and approving invoices, and working with the Public Works information office to promote the programs.
Schedules and publicizes recycling classes and tours for neighborhood leaders. Edits recycling articles and monitors neighborhood newsletters and NextDoor for published articles and notifications. Assists with check-in and hosting of events. Administer Resource Conservation Challenge incentive program.
Assists with and contributes to the solid waste team development including administrative process, policy development and problem solving. Attends all employer-required trainings and meetings. Participates in professional development opportunities including industry trainings and conferences.
