“GIS Specialist”
SPECIAL SERVICES DIVISION / INFORMATION SYSTEMS / PHOENIX BASED FLSA – EXEMPT SALARY GRADE 20 ($36,814-$65,827) REQUISITION # 20737 / CLOSING DATE: 01/29/2016
Description of Duties: The GIS Specialist position is responsible for providing GIS support to the Landowner Relations Program (LRP) through coordination of effort and technical expertise with other Department employees. This position will maintain the Recreational Access Arizona Web mapping tool and mobile application version, including updates of GIS data to maintain accuracy for public users. Maintain and updates the LRP accomplishments Database (LORAX), including training on using the database, Smart phone field collection, and other technology needs. Coordinates with the Department’s Game Program to develop additional components for LORAX that capture HPC and WHEI accomplishments and ensure work is completed within the Department’s Information Systems Branch guidelines and standards. Plans, organizes, analyzes and conducts professional fish and wildlife management activities or studies in the office, field or laboratory. Develops and institutes best practices in managing fish and wildlife populations and their habitats. Develops and/or reviews recommendations and reports on wildlife research, surveys, harvest analysis, habitat evaluations, and/or environmental inventories and estimates. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The candidate must have knowledge of/in: GIS theory, technology and real world applications of GIS technology, fish and wildlife management and advanced biology.
The candidate must be skilled in the use of radio systems, GPS devices and technology, computers, cameras and other necessary tools and equipment, data entry and analysis, and in development and maintenance of online GIS applications, centralized databases, and use of the latest GIS software.
The candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in a wildlife science or closely related field from an accredited college or university and three years of professional experience in a wildlife research or wildlife management department or agency.
A graduate degree in a wildlife science or a closely related field may substitute for one year or required experience. Preference will be given to GIS Professional certified individual, or an individual with advanced education in fields relating to Geographic Information Systems (e.g. MS-GIS; certificate courses alone will not necessarily satisfy this preference).
Position requires possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)
