*MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING (MI):*

*Creating Conversations That Transform Organizational Culture*

*(This workshop has been designed for all staff levels)*

*Trainer: DR. CAL CROW*

*January 28, 2016 ♦ 9:00am – 4:00pm ♦ The
2100 Building, 2100 24th Ave. S. Seattle WA 98144*

*(Please scroll down to access workshop details and register staff online)*

*This workshop will feature principles of Motivational Interviewing (MI),
and strategies to both increase motivation and overcome hindrances to it.
A substantial part of the day will be spent practicing questions and probes
that change conversations, create transformations, increase motivation for
both customers and staff, and ultimately drive organizational culture
change. *

*A major part of MI is helping individuals resolve ambivalence. For
example: “On the one hand, you know that finding a job requires time and
effort, and at the same time, you have difficulty working these things into
your schedule. How do you view the situation?” This is an example of
identifying a discrepancy, and “inviting” a person to discuss it. Having a
meaningful, non-threatening discussion helps create a readiness to
change. *

*Topics covered during the workshop include: Understanding Behavior Change;
The Role of Ambivalence in Motivational Interviewing; Identifying
Discrepancies in Conversations; Demonstrating Empathy; The Importance*

*of Self-Efficacy in Motivational Interviewing; Expecting, Accepting, and
Working through Resistance.*

*Motivational Interviewing began as a counseling approach for individuals
working through substance abuse. It has since been expanded to education,
corrections, and social/human services*.

*Participant Outcomes:*

*By the end of this session, participants will be able to:*

· *Explain and demonstrate five major principles of Motivational
Interviewing.*

· *Identify and mitigate at least five hindrances to motivation. *

· *Apply at least three MI strategies for increasing motivation.*

· *Create conversations that increase motivation. *
