The Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife’s Puget Sound Ecosystem Monitoring Program is looking for volunteers (students welcome) to help process marine mussels, from a recent nearshore contaminant monitoring study in the Puget Sound, for biological and chemical analysis.

 

  • Where:  Natural Resources Building, Marine Resources Laboratory (6th floor) – 1111 Washington St. SE, Olympia WA 95504
  • When:  February 8 – 11, and again starting February 22 – end of March (or until all mussels are processed)
  • What:  Volunteers will be working in a lab environment measuring shell lengths, shucking mussels from their shells, weighing  the soft tissues, and recording data on a datasheet.  All work will require wearing of laboratory gloves and handling scalpels.
