OUTREACH NOTICE
This is a preliminary outreach notice for a GS-404-07, 1-year TERM, full-time, Lead Biological Science Technician position with the USDA Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Research Station (RMRS), Wildlife and Terrestrial Ecosystems (WTE) program.

MAJOR DUTIES
Key functions of the position include, but are not limited to:
 Assists supervisor with oversight of avian research projects in coordination with stakeholders.
 Assists with data management using computer software (e.g., MS Office, R).
 Assists supervisor with hiring field technicians.
 Assists supervisor with training field technicians in established field methods.
 Fosters and conducts work duties in a safe and secure manner.
 Serves as crew leader directing and supervising temporary field staff performing wildlife research, as needed.
 Conducts standardized surveys (e.g., point count, playback-response) for focal avian species.
 Performs searches for nests of focal landbirds following established protocols.
 Monitors nest survival of focal avian species (e.g., cavity-nesting birds).
 Measures habitat features of focal avian species.
 Regularly communicates status of projects to supervisor.
 Travels to remote forest locations using 4×4 vehicles.
 Operates and maintains scientific and project-related equipment.
 Hikes up to 10 miles per day carrying 40 lb backpack.
