Program Coordinator

This is a termed position from May 16 to November 18, 2016.
The Indigenous Arts department at The Banff Centre is looking for a talented Program Coordinator to provide the logistical, administrative, and operational support required for the delivery of Indigenous Arts programming and special events. Our program coordinators are self-motivated and highly organized, able to prioritize effectively, exercise sound judgment, and function efficiently within tight deadlines. They are strong and clear communicators, conducting themselves in a confident, friendly, and professional manner with all artists, faculty, stakeholders, community members, and colleagues. As a specialized Arts and Culture Institution, The Banff Centre is Canada’s and Alberta’s renowned centre of excellence in creativity and the arts. The Banff Centre’s core area of specialization is the Arts, offered at the professional, post-graduate level.
Programs are characterized by applied research, independent study, creation, collaboration, production, performance, and dissemination of new work. Informed by Indigenous cultures and worldviews, we offer programs in all disciplines for emerging and established Indigenous artists. Our programs are highly transformative, situate rigour and exploration at its centre, and are inspired by “power of place” here in Treaty 7 territory. Through outstanding performances, concerts, residencies, presentations, workshops, talks and exhibitions, Indigenous Arts contributes to strong and vibrant Indigenous arts communities in Canada and around the globe.
Responsibilities will include: Working with the Program Manager, Indigenous Arts to develop, coordinate, implement, administer, and evaluate Indigenous Arts programs and public events, ensuring the needs of participants, faculty, and performers are fully supported Working with other Banff Centre departments to arrange all program logistics and promote Indigenous Arts programs and events Acting as liaison between program artists and Banff Centre departments Providing administrative support for the Indigenous Arts department in general and serving as primary support personnel to the Director Maintaining accurate filing/records management systems of Indigenous Arts programs and overseeing the inventory and purchase of office supplies Supporting the planning and creation of promotional materials and strategies, including writing and editing text for brochures, posters, web site pages, social media platforms, etc. Reconciling participant and faculty accounts; submitting bills for payment; issuing and tracking purchase requests, petty cash transactions, expense claims, and travel bookings Associated duties and/or special projects as required
If you possess the following qualifications, and have a deep commitment to an Indigenous world view, tradition, and community art issues, we would like to hear from you:
Three to five years’ work or related experience in Indigenous arts, theatre arts, and/or the performing arts fields University or college degree, preferably in arts administration or fine arts Excellent analytical, writing, and interpersonal skills Ability to apply good management principles within an artistic environment where flexible solutions are required. Proficient with Microsoft Office and familiar with database and financial management
We are accepting applications for our new Program Coordinator, Indigenous Arts until March 30, 2016. Special Requirements Candidates offered a position with the Centre, in this capacity, will be required to obtain a criminal record check verifying a clear record before a final job offer can be made. From time-to-time a flexible schedule will be necessary in order to meet program and public event needs. Employment Terms & Benefits In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, 6-month termed, hourly support staff position, subject to a 500-hour probationary period. This position pays between $18.23 and $20.25 per hour depending on experience, working up to 37.5 hours per week. During peak programming times, weekly hours may increase and work during evenings and weekends will be required.
