Salary: $101,962.00 – $142,397.00 Annually

The Parks & Recreation Deputy Director has two primary areas of responsibilities: General Policy Support and Management. In the General Policy Support role, the Deputy Director is the Bureau Director’s closest advisor and helps develop strategies, priorities, performance measures and responses for the entire Bureau. In this role, the position works with the Director in setting and carrying out the City’s vision, mission and objectives for parks, natural areas, recreation, and the urban forest.

The Deputy Director provides leadership and support for strategies, programs and activities developed by the Bureau and the Equity & Inclusion Manager to promote and support workplace inclusion, diversity and equity in access and culturally responsive service delivery to our changing community. The Deputy Director works in tandem with the Equity and Inclusion division to promote the bureau’s equity and inclusion goals throughout all core job functions by ensuring that impacts on underserved populations with an emphasis on communities of color, people with disabilities, recent immigrants and refugees are considered in community engagement, resource allocation and service provision decisions.

The Deputy Director represents the Director, Bureau and City in various forums, meetings and groups. These settings often can include representatives of other City Bureaus, elected officials, state and local public agencies, partner organizations, donors, and other community stakeholders. The position also acts as the Bureau Director when the Director is absent. Additionally, the Deputy Director helps provide leadership and support to the five other Division Managers in the Bureau, helping them achieve their share of the Bureau’s mission, goals, objectives and service expectations.

Secondly, in the Management role, the position has direct responsibility for the Support Services Division of the Bureau, consisting of nearly 70 full-time employees. This includes the planning, organizing, leadership, direction, supervision, and performance management of:
