Definition
The Weekend Supervisor is responsible for customer service, general clerical work, building and patron security, and the overall supervision of the Center during weekend hours, often working in the facility unaccompanied.
Essential Job Functions
- Provide information and assistance over the phone and in person at the Interpretive Center front desk about programs, activities, room rentals, natural resources, trails, and other general Park District information.
- Assist our patrons with program enrollment and class registration. Sign participants up for classes, handle money and receipts, reconcile daily cash receipts and bank deposits, and perform other registration-related procedures.
- Oversee all aspects of the Nature Retail Store including purchasing merchandise, tracking sales, and maintaining inventory.
- Prepare, edit, and maintain a variety of forms, letters, flyers, and promotional materials. Compile reports for staff including class rosters, emergency release forms, program attendance reports, budget reports, and retail information.
- Responsible for the security of the Center (including closing and securing the building for the night), preparing and submitting accident/incident reports, ensuring the safety of program participants, and providing first aid, if necessary.
- Provide minimal direction to volunteers. Track and maintain volunteer reporting documents.
- Answer the multi-line telephone system, direct calls to appropriate personnel, and take accurate messages.
- Perform data-entry. Research and collect data for special projects and reports.
- Perform filing duties and operate and maintain standard office equipment including computer, fax machine, copier, LCD projector, cameras, and cell phones.
- Provide excellent internal and external customer service. Create a positive experience for customers through professional and courteous behavior and creative problem solving.
- Practice safe work habits and contribute to the safety of self, co-workers, and the general public.
- Assist staff, instructors, and volunteers, with class set-up, event preparation, and program implementation and assist rentals as needed.
- Attend staff meetings and work the occasional evening and day-time shift, as required and perform light custodial duties, as needed.

Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- General clerical duties and office management including proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Business English, spelling, punctuation, letter writing, report preparation, record keeping, and mathematics.
- Knowledge of native flora and fauna, a plus.
Ability to:
- Provide excellent customer service, both internally and externally, and communicate courteously and cooperatively with other staff and the general public, on the phone, in person, and in writing, including handling difficult or irate people.
- Perform general clerical work including maintenance and organization of appropriate records and compile information for reports under minimal supervision.
- Type or enter data at a speed and accuracy necessary for successful job performance.
- Accurately post/track accounting transactions and checks; handle money, and count and balance daily cash receipts.
- Operate a variety of office equipment including copy machine, phone system, computer, fax, and adding machine.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, other staff members, program participants, and the general public.
- Maintain a neat and professional work appearance.
- Support and respect diversity in the workplace.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, and OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid required; Epinephrine Certification, preferred
- Must be 18 years or older.
Experience and Training Guidelines
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and ability to perform the duties as outlined is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be as follows:
Experience:
- Two years general clerical experience, including public contact, and familiarity with natural resources programming.
Training:
- Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade with specialized clerical training.
