The Office of Energy Systems and Sustainability Management (ESSM) at Syracuse University is seeking to hire a Sustainability Coordinator.
The Sustainability Coordinator will assist in leading the effort to assure that the University complies with its Climate Commitment of achieving climate neutrality by 2040 as outlined in its Climate Action Plan. The Sustainability coordinator will support in the development and identification of sustainable goals and processes for the University. Manage the Sustainability Management Academic Internship Program that promotes on-campus sustainability efforts during events, classroom presentations, department presentations and other public appearances.
The Coordinator will partner with students and faculty to develop and generate class projects. Create and administer education, awareness and outreach sustainability programs and efforts.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies or related degree in architecture, engineering, management or science, with an environmental focus or five years’ experience in sustainability, energy or facility-related field.
Preferred: LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional.
Job Specific Qualifications:
- Knowledge of sustainability theory, environmental management policies, issues, and initiatives. Experience with energy, water and waste conservation, in buildings.
- Knowledge and experience working with and developing a Climate Action Plan and tracking greenhouse gas emissions
- Strong interpersonal skills, working with diverse groups of individuals and building partnerships.
- Strong communication skills including writing and public speaking. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly.
- Ability to work independently, to be a team leader and to work as a team member.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and an ability to learn other software as needed. Preferred: Website management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, and to work with shifting priorities and schedules.
- Knowledge of social media platforms.
- Commitment to institutional and societal sustainability.
