Funded graduate research opportunity at Virginia Tech

PhD or Masters student position available Fall 2017 to become part of a team conducting a national study designed to investigate what techniques work best in environmental education (EE).  The position will entail considerable travel and will employ novel observational and survey techniques to measure the differential impacts of diverse EE programming on middle school-aged kids.  The student will be enrolled within the Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation, one of the top ranked programs of its kind in North America.

Other opportunities within the Stern lab include studying landscape-scale collaborative natural resource management, international conservation and development, and social-ecological systems surrounding water quality and human well-being.  However, the primary responsibility of the incoming student will be associated with the EE study summarized above.

Qualifications: Excellent writing and analytical skills, flexibility, ability to work on a team, a strong desire to learn, and some prior experience with environmental education.
