Classification: Experimental Biology Aide – 1 Permanent Position

Salary Range: $1,979 – $2,052 per month

Location: La Grande, Oregon.

 Job Description: The employee in this position will participate in the collection of scientific data at hatcheries and in streams of northeast Oregon for the evaluation of steelhead and Chinook salmon hatchery programs. Principal duties will include assisting in spawning Chinook salmon and steelhead for hatchery broodstock, collecting snout, scale, and tissue sample data from adult salmonids during hatchery spawning and on spawning ground surveys, assisting with sampling and tagging juvenile salmonids at hatcheries and assisting with other projects as needed. Office work will include entering field data into a computer database, compiling those data for tables and graphs in annual reports, and mounting, pressing, and reading adult salmonid scales.

 This position requires a flexible work schedule that varies in the number of hours worked on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, or a work schedule in which the starting and stopping times vary on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day. This position may include weekend and some night work. This position may be physically demanding; employees will occasionally be working independently under adverse weather conditions in semi-remote areas.

 Requirements: Applicants must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.

Minimum qualifications are not established for this position; however applicants with related experience (e.g., prior work with salmonids, experience with data entry, data compilation, and report preparation) may be given preference.
