2012 Corpsmember (February – December)

POSITION SUMMARY:
The corpsmember position is a training-level, seasonal position with EarthCorps, offered through the Washington Commission on National and Community Service (WCNCS).  As such, all applicants must meet the requirements to become an AmeriCorps member and abide by AmeriCorps policies.  AmeriCorps members will join participants from around the world as they work to restore the environment of the Pacific Northwest. EarthCorps has trained environmental leaders from the following countries: Bolivia, Brazil, Cameroon, China, Georgia, Ghana, Jamaica, Liberia, Mongolia, Namibia, Nepal, Pakistan, Panama, Philippines, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Tanzania, Uganda, United States, Uzbekistan, and many more!

Corpsmembers spend 80% of their time in the field engaged in environmental restoration projects throughout the Puget Sound region (in urban, suburban, and rural settings). Restoration is physically demanding work that takes place outdoors in all weather conditions. Projects can include stream and salmon habitat restoration, erosion control, invasive plant removal (weed removal), native plant installation, trail construction and maintenance, and volunteer management. Corpsmembers spend 20% of their time in classes, workshops, and field trainings as part of EarthCorps’ education program. Education sessions mirror the learning goals of the EarthCorps experience, with curriculum covering basic botany and ecology of the Pacific Northwest, environmental restoration theories and concepts, topics in natural resource management and global environmental issues, leadership skills, and interpersonal and cross-cultural communication.

CORPSMEMBER TERMS OF SERVICE:
• STATUS: Temporary, non-exempt – Enrolled through WCNCS
• PERIOD: February  – mid-December 2012
• RATE OF PAY: Living stipend of approx. $1,120/month
• TYPICAL HOURS OF SERVICE: 7:20 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tuesday – Saturday, alternating Sat.  and Mon. off

2012 Crew Leader (January – December)

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Crew Leader (CL) position is a seasonal position at EarthCorps.  The crew leader is responsible for: project coordination between project sponsors, EarthCorps project managers, the Field Operations Director, and their crew; facilitation of crew safety and well-being, productivity, morale and quality of work; corpsmember training and education in the field; and, maintaining the objectives of EarthCorps in all endeavors. The position reports to the program manager who will serve as advisor to the crew leaders and their crews. EarthCorps crews will be comprised of 6-7 corpsmembers and a crew leader. Corpsmembers may be international or U.S. AmeriCorps participants. Some U.S. crew leader applicants will enroll in AmeriCorps and must abide by AmeriCorps policies and complete 1,700 hours of service.  The position is designed with co-leading for the first half of the program and solo leading for the second half.

Crew Leaders are primarily in the field engaged in environmental restoration projects throughout the Puget Sound region (in urban, suburban, and rural settings). Restoration is physically demanding work that takes place outdoors in all weather conditions.  Projects can include stream and salmon habitat restoration, erosion control, invasive plant removal (weed removal), native plant installation, trail construction and maintenance, and volunteer management. Work regularly involves hiking, heavy lifting, & repetitive motions, including lifting up to 50 lbs. (22.5 kg), as well as hiking up to 8 miles (13 km) while carrying 40 lbs. (18 kg) of weight for up to 9 hrs/day.
CREW LEADER TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• STATUS: Temporary, non-exempt
• PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: January – mid-December 2012, incl. two weeks of unpaid WFR training
• RATE OF PAY:
U.S. Participants- Jan.- May, $1500/mo.; June – Dec., $1600/mo.
Int’l Participants- Jan.- May, $385/mo.+ room & board; June – Dec., $485/mo. + room & board
• TYPICAL HOURS OF WORK: 7:20 a.m.– 5:30 p.m. Tues. – Sat., alternating Sat. and Mon. off
• 4 multiday overnights outside of Seattle will be required, vehicle camping and retreats

2012 Senior Crew Leader (January – December)

2012 Volunteer Specialist (January – December)

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Volunteer Specialist is a seasonal position at EarthCorps. This position will assist in all aspects of managing volunteer and youth outreach events. Tasks will include volunteer event planning, on-site supervision of volunteers, creating and leading environmental education activities for youth and adults, and maintenance of Volunteer Program tools and materials. The Volunteer Specialist will also complete field work alongside their team to accomplish the field goals of EarthCorps. This position is supervised by the Program Manager and works at project sites throughout the Puget Sound region (in urban, suburban, and rural settings). For U.S. participants, this position is offered through the Washington Commission on National and Community Service (WCNCS). As such, all U.S. applicants must meet the requirements to become an AmeriCorps member and abide by AmeriCorps policies.

VOLUNTEER SPECIALIST TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• STATUS: Temporary, non-exempt

• RATE OF PAY:

2012 Senior Volunteer Specialist (January – December)

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Volunteer Specialist is a seasonal position at EarthCorps. This position involves project supervision and coordination between the program manager, EarthCorps Project Managers, the agency, and the volunteer team. The Sr. Volunteer Specialist will serve as an advisor and mentor to the Volunteer Specialists, and will assist the program manager in project implementation and program facilitation. Project management in designated sites will be expected from the start of the program. Primary field work includes volunteer event planning and management, direct supervision of invasive plant removal, native plant installation and other tasks as assigned. This position is supervised by the program manager and works at project sites throughout the Puget Sound region (in urban, suburban, and rural settings).

SR. VOLUNTEER SPECIALIST TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
