Managing Director, Built Environment, Brightworks
This position is responsible for the overall functioning of the built environment line of business; encompassing multiple practices and currently the largest revenue producer for Brightworks. The position has full profit and loss responsibility. The successful candidate will be a person who lives by the buck stops here motto and is used to wearing many different hats. The Managing Director will be required to drive new business, mentor staff locally and from a distance, participate in sales calls, establish pricing and rates, hire, fire, sign contracts, and deal with the daily distractions of an evolving business in an evolving field of work. In short, the Managing Director will fulfill all functions necessary to ensure this line of business for the firm is growing and profitable.

RESPONSIBILITIES
While the role focuses on developing new business, managing the client relationship at the executive level and providing direction and oversight to project teams, the successful candidate will be passionate about what they do and enjoy a fun, entrepreneurial environment where collaboration and creativity abound. This is a newly developed position, reporting to the COO, and will play an active role at all levels in the organization, participating in strategy development as well as execution.
The Managing Director will be responsible for all operations for the built environment line of business, including:
• All P&L, budgeting, payments and billing for the business.
• Client engagement management, account engagement (primarily at the executive level) with appropriate resource allocations.
• Consultant salary, hiring, coaching, performance and termination management.
• Communication and collaboration with executive staff. Identification of crossover opportunities with Brightworks’ other lines of business.
• Sales strategies and tactical development that drive revenue, profit and growth.
• Revenue generation and strategic partnerships development and management. Pricing policies (or terms and conditions) for high profile clients and partners.
• Complex contract negotiation and work with legal counsel as required.
• Overall sales process, lead development and appropriate metrics for sales funnel management.
PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES/EVALUATION
Performance at Brightworks is assessed against firm building, business building, and community/culture building. For the Managing Director, performance will be assessed against the following:
• Profitable revenue growth
• Personal business development, including acquisition of a number of new key accounts per year
• Addition of products/services that keep Brightworks’ leading edge
• Client satisfaction
• Partner satisfaction
• Staff development and retention
QUALIFICATIONS
• Five to seven years of experience with a proven track record in solutions consulting with extensive experience serving a mix of commercial, real estate, nonprofit and government clients. This work should demonstrate the ability to successfully manage large, complex client programs and provide leadership for multiple client delivery teams, with responsibility for driving high customer satisfaction and achieving P&L targets.
• Candidate with good connections into relevant networks of corporate facilities or real estate would be ideal.
• Should be able to speak to recent trends and challenges for sustainability-focused programs and strategies in existing structures, facilities and new building construction.
• Experience in creating and managing a pipeline capable of achieving annual sales and managed revenue targets without huge resource investments. Early exposure to resource rich environments appreciated, but would prefer to see consulting service experience in a small business environment as well.
• BS/BA, preferably in business, architecture, engineering or a related field. Higher degree (e.g., MBA, MS in biology/engineering/science) preferred.
• Proven success and enjoyment from working with and driving alignment among team members who have conflicting objectives or ideas (but are astute and can find common ground).
• Proven ability to lead, coach and mentor a diverse, geographically dispersed and growing team.
• Willingness to roll up sleeves, get on a plane and do whatever it takes as part of a team to win (balance of entrepreneurial spirit with pragmatism of business leadership and “collaborative” competence).
• Ability to travel by car or plane a substantial part of the time. Occasional attendance at evening meetings expected.
