HARVEST AGAINST HUNGER GLEANING COORDINATOR (AmeriCorps VISTA)
Clark County Food Bank, Vancouver, Washington
Closes: Sunday, September 4, 2011 (Applications reviewed as received)

Commitment:
12 months, 40 hrs per week beginning November 14, 2011. Member may not hold additional jobs

Background:
Work with Clark County Food Bank to develop a Harvest Against Hunger program to further produce recovery projects that support food pantries in Clark County. This position is in partnership with the Clark County Food Bank network, Urban Abundance, local volunteer groups and growers to access and glean fresh produce for a number of hunger relief agencies in Clark County. This position will focus on further developing intentional crops grown by and for the food pantry on leased and private property. A portion of time will also assist in introducing nutrition education across the county from the new Clark County Food Bank facility, using a teaching kitchen.

As a project of Rotary First Harvest (RFH), the Harvest Against Hunger gleaning program creates a much needed way to enlist small to medium-sized farm operations in existing hunger relief efforts in local communities throughout Washington. For 28 years, RFH has focused on connecting and collaborating between different groups (farmers, truckers, food pantry’s and others) to gather food that would otherwise go to waste.

This position is offered through the AmeriCorps*VISTA program, which is described on the AmeriCorps website:
